Tilt Wall Industrial Buildings
Cost effective tilt wall construction for warehouses and industrial facilities.
Tilt-wall construction has become the dominant building system for industrial facilities in the DFW market for good reason: it delivers durable, attractive buildings faster than conventional construction. As a general contractor with extensive tilt-wall experience, we manage every aspect from panel casting through final erection.
The tilt-wall process begins with casting concrete wall panels horizontally on the building floor slab. Once cured, panels are tilted up using cranes and braced until the roof structure ties everything together. This sequence means the floor slab must be complete and properly cured before panel casting can begin. Schedule planning is critical.
Panel design balances structural requirements with architectural intent. Standard panels are 6 to 8 inches thick, though taller buildings or high wind zones may require thicker panels or additional reinforcement. Reveals, form liners, and integral color provide architectural interest without the cost of additional finishes.
Erection day is the most visible milestone in tilt-wall construction. A 100,000 square foot building might have 40 to 50 panels that go up over 3 to 5 days. Proper planning ensures cranes, crews, and panels are positioned for efficient erection. We've erected panels in every condition North Texas weather offers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does tilt-wall construction take?
A typical 100,000 square foot tilt-wall building takes 8-10 months from groundbreaking to occupancy. The tilt sequence itself (slab pour, panel casting, curing, and erection) runs about 8 weeks. Site work and finish-out determine the overall schedule.
What finishes are available for tilt panels?
Standard panels receive form release and can be painted any color. Reveals create shadow lines that add architectural interest. Form liners create textures like exposed aggregate, fractured fin, or masonry patterns. Integral color eliminates painting. The combinations are nearly unlimited.
How do tilt panels connect?
Panels are connected at the roof level with steel embeds welded to the roof structure. Panel-to-panel connections use welded plates or cast-in connectors. These connections provide both structural integrity and allow for building movement from thermal expansion and settling.
Can tilt-wall buildings be expanded later?
Yes, with proper planning. We design buildings with expansion in mind, including temporary end walls that can be removed and structural systems sized for additional bays. Adding to a tilt-wall building is straightforward when the original design accommodates it.
What clear heights can tilt-wall achieve?
Standard tilt-wall buildings achieve 28 to 36 foot clear heights efficiently. Higher buildings are possible but may require thicker panels, additional bracing, or hybrid systems combining tilt with structural steel. We help clients balance height requirements with construction cost.
